Charity Bazaar 2011
This year Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam is proud to share that 12 special athletes are selected to represent the country. From 25th June to 4th July 2011, they will join the rest of 184 countries at the World Summer Games in Athens, Greece. These special athletes will be participating in Bocce and Athletics.
Therefore as part of helping our special athletes to achieve their dreams & be winners in Athens, Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam is organising a Charity Bazaar at the Sumbangsih Building Car park area in Beribi this 29th April to 1st May 2011. There will also be a fun costume walkathon on the 1st May 2011.
All is welcome to join and support our fundraising events. There will be exciting prizes to win during the walkathon including lucky draws as well as performance by our local artistes including Hill Zaini, The Seeds and many more. Please come and support us in making dreams come true.

HRH Princess Fadzillah graces Special Olympics
GUEST OF HONOUR, Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bulqiah, graced the Balapan Track and Field in Berakas for the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD) 5th National Games yesterday.
Held over three days, the games will feature 200 special athletes compete in five games, track and field, Bocce, football, bowling and Young Athletes (Aged 8 and below).This year's edition will not only tap and showcase the potential of the special athletes but allow the SOBD to reach a bigger platform.
Co-chairman of the organising committee, Dato Paduka Hj Jemat Hj Ampal, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports said in his opening speech: "For this annual event we want to raise the profile of special athletes not only on the local scene but also internationally." More>>
Special Olympics athletes get free health check-up
One hundred volunteers from Ministry of Health, Sports Medicine and Research Centre, Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, Performance Optimisation Centre - Penanjong Camp and undergraduates from Universiti Brunei Darussalam's UVC (University Volunteer and Charity Club) - were on hand to conduct free health checks of 150 athletes competing in the 5th SOBD National Games.
The checks were run to strengthen awareness among health professionals on the importance of providing appropriate health-related services to people with intellectual disabilities and also to improve access and health care for SO athletes and young athletes alike. More>>
5th Special Olympics National Games
ABOUT 200 special needs children will be participating in the upcoming 5th Special Olympics National Games from March 18-21.
A total of five sports - including two to be introduced this year - will be held at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.
Joining the athletics, booce and football will be The Young Athletes Program for athletes aged eight and below. Four events will be contested in the programme: ball kicking, ball striking, jumping and obstacle running.
The other new sport, bowling, will be held at Jerudong Polo and Country Club. Other activities during the four-day event include a health screening and a seminar.
The aims of the games are to raise awareness of the Special Olympics and also to select and prepare the athletes for the World Special Olympics Summer Games in Athens next year.
"We would like to convey our appreciation to all the sponsors and also the ministries for their continuous support. We would also like to thank all the volunteers and parents who are contributing to make this a successful event," said SOBD chairman, Hj Mahrub Hj Murni. Special Olympics Brunei (SO Brunei) is sponsoring a Walkathon on the 3rd of May 2009 to raise enough funds to sustain its annual activities and programs such as the regular training of its special athletes for various sporting events. The Walkathon hopefully will also generate enough funds in preparation for the World Special Olympics in Athens in 2011.
The Walkathon is open to all who are interested to join. Assembly time is 6:30 a.m. at Taman Sirmuda Omar Ali Saifuddien and will end at Berakas Stadium where various surprises await the participants like carnivals, games, and charity bazaar. For those who are interested to participate in the Charity Bazaar to sell some food, assorted items and other stuff, you may download the Charity Bazaar Confirmation Slip here:. The Bazaar will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
New Full Board Positions Getting Ready For The 3rd Borneo Cup
The Annual General Meeting last 14 November 2008 paved the way to have new full board positions for the year 2008-2010. As a kick-off activity for the elected members, Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam will be sending two teams for the 3rd Borneo Cup on 12 – 14 December 2008 at the Sarawak State Stadium Petra Jaya, Kuching, Sarawak.
The Special Olympics athletes from Brunei-Muara District can possibly participate in this event through the generous support of their sponsor, the HSBC Brunei. Before flying off to Kuching, a turn over ceremony will be held in the Special Olympics Office on 10 December 2008 to be attended by the CEO of HSBC Brunei.
Annual General Meeting With Election of New Committee Members
The Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam will be holding its Annual General Meeting 2008 on 14th November 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at the Dewan Setia Pahlawan, Department of Information, Jalan Old Airport Lama.
All members together with their family are invited to attend this event to help re-elect new committee members for the year 2008-2010. Nomination for all positions is still open and if you wish to nominate, kindly fill out the Nominated List Form and fax, e-mail or send it to the office on or before 10th November 2008.
Regional Bocce Competition 2008
For the second time, Special Olympics athletes from Asia Pacific Region competed in a bocce tournament jointly organized by Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Brunei.
Teams from six Special Olympics Programmes in the region competed in a weeklong tournament from August 18-24, 2008. During this period, various non-sporting activities were also conducted and among these are: the Healthy Athletes Programme, National Induction of Special Olympics Young Athletes Programme, Special Olympics Family Support Network seminars and the launching of Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam public website.
